USCRA Rules

The United States Calf Ropers Association is a membership association that is designed to give calf ropers a fair and competitive chance to compete in the sport of calf roping. The USCRA uses a number classification system to rank each roper on his/her ability level. By grouping ropers that have similar talents, USCRA’s calf ropings have a competitive atmosphere.

The USCRA follows the PRCA Rulebook as it applies to the event of calf roping (tiedown).
In addition, the USCRA rules include the following:

  • There is a 30 second time-limit while competing on each run.
  • Only one loop is allowed per run.
  • The back gate of the arena is left open.
Once a calf breaks the plane of the back gate, the run is over and the roper will receive a “no time”.
  • In the EE, 00, and 00 Select divisions, ropers do not have to get their calves up.
If the roper chooses not to get the calf up, a one second penalty will be added to their time.
Classification System:

USCRA calf ropers are classified into five divisions - EE, 00, 00 Select, #1, and #2

The EE classification is the first step of the ladder and the numbers increase as the roper's ability level increases.

EquiBrand National Showdown Finals

The USCRA has a finals every September that is unique because it gives every member a chance to participate.

Semi-Finals:
The Semi-Finals roping is open to all current USCRA members who have roped at one or more USCRA calf ropings during the current season. The top ten ropers in the average of the Semi-Finals win a position in the Showdown Finals.

Showdown Finals:
The Showdown Finals roping is the showcase of the USCRA. The opportunity to rope in the Showdown Finals must be earned and is known as a Showdown Position. Showdown Positions can be won at regular season USCRA ropings and at the Semi-Finals. Each regular season roping awards at least two Showdown Positions - 1st and 2nd in the average. Ten more positions are awarded during the Semi-Finals.
